Marbury, Allen sent home from practice

Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff April 9, 2009 01:23 PM

Stephon Marbury and Ray Allen were sent home from practice this morning with what the team is calling a stomach virus. Had there been a game however, the Celtics are confident they could have played in it.

Allen and Marbury's departures left the injury-riddled Celtics with just nine players available to practice. And as anyone who's ever tried to get a pickup game going knows, it's tough to get a full game going with nine players.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers also said there was a chance injured big men Kevin Garnett, Leon Powe, and Brian Scalabrine could take part in drills on Saturday, but could not take part in 5-on-5 drills.

In addition, Rivers said he has not received calls from anyone who might be interested in assistant coaches Tom Thibodeau and Armond Hill for head coaching positions, but he hoped his assistants would get that chance sometime soon.

  1. It seems like everyone has been out for one reason or another this season. Here's hoping we're back to 100% come playoff time!

  1. Doc just wants Tom Thibodeau out of there is because Tom poses a direct threat to Doc's job!!!!!!!!

Doc would shop this guy on ebay if he thought the GM's were biting.

  1. Hell, if I were Boston I'd swap Thibodeau for Doc any day. The Celts are going to hurt when TT leaves to coach elsewhere - just watch.

  1. Like I said we dont need no Marbury, we should have picked up Gooden or Joe Smith along with Moore. And to be one of the best shooters in the NBA, Ray Allen is a sell out. His playoff percentage is horrible these last two years. Boston might get swept
