Scalabrine cleared; Rondo takes it easy

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff April 21, 2009 01:13 PM

Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine has been cleared to practice with the team tomorrow and could play as soon as Thursday night, according to coach Doc Rivers. Scalabrine has suffered three concussions this season and has not played since Feb. 23 at Denver.

Rajon Rondo attended practice today but avoided the more physical drills. He isn't expected to practice tomorrow because of an ankle injury, but Rivers said he expects him to play in Game 3 Thursday in Chicago.

  1. dont expect him to knock down any shots.. he's best for the defense he brings.

  1. I'm a big scal fan. No, I don't think he's amazing, but he does a good job. He does all the little stuff, is a big man (which we desperatelly need now), and he has a career FG pct of .353, which helps space the floor. You will all see, he will help beat the bulls. Go Scal

  1. Does it make any difference?

The season was lost when management let Posey walk, then brought in the HORRID Mikki More and Marbury to beef up the bench, both who have added nothing.

  1. i love our team, but im a realist. we'll need the help of larry bird and lucky the leprechaun to get back to the finals.

  1. I was at the game last night and had a hard time celebrating that GREAT shot by Ray. Why? Because the Celts D was more MISERABLE than that shot was great.

If someone close to Doc, or anyone on the bench for that matter, reads this please pressure him to leave Marbury on the bench for the rest of the playoffs. Eddie got plenty of shots playing the point before this so called move was made to free him up. I would have much rather seen T Allen defending Gordon when Ray had to sit. Actually, I think I would have rather seen Tony out there than Ray at times. Defense wins championships. How can Chicago pretty much shut down two of our scorers through double teams and we can't shut down one?

Wouldn't mind seeing more screens for Paul, too. And, I can never stress enough...BOX THE HECK OUT!!!!!

  1. Sounds like the C's have to rush someone out there and Scal drew the short straw.

Hasn't played since Feb but is magically healthy after KG and Powe goes down? I doubt it.

  1. Scal is a disgrace out there. Great he can shoot from the outside, but he neglects being down low and there fore we end up with more isolation and low percentage shots when he is out there.

  1. maxwell, 62 wins without posey must mean he was THE key to that championship team, right?

w/ garnett i would have been able to see the celts upsetting cleveland and handing it to LA again - they were playing at a high level even without garnett going into the postseason. but now? down two big men and having scal second on the depth chart at ANY position is bad...ugh.

even posey would not have been able to help us at this point.

  1. Posey would certainly help shut down hot guards like Ben Gordon.

But overall, if you tell me the C's have Posey but no KG and no Powe vs. Cleveland, I can't pick the C's in good faith.

As for Scal: I think it's a risk to count on him in Games 3 or 4. Better to have him play his first game in Boston. The C's need to find a way to win Games 3 or 4 without Scal. Someone has to step up. Pierce, obviously, needs to bring his "A" game. But I'm thinking Eddie House, if given the minutes, has some big shots in him.

  1. For those complaining about our D...give the Bulls and specifically Ben Gordon some credit. Gordon hit tough shot after tough shot and so did some of the other Bulls, like Salmons. This is a great series to watch...let's enjoy it!

  1. I seem to recall Scal playing pretty good before he went down with the concussions. C'mon show some support people! I say its just some good irish luck that he is doing okay to play, I am sure he would not be cleared if it wasn't 100% safe. I think Pierce will bring it on and Ray is back and Rondo please stay healthy, can't do it without you, and Perk and Big Baby keep up the good work. Yes, agree keep House in and play TA more too, Mikki Moore you have to stop foulin big guy! Marbury I hope you can find your shot also for we need that. I hope we can get ahead so Walker can play more too.

  1. The lose of KG hurts. Hurts bad but the way the C's have NOT played D in the last two games just hurts more. They have looked lost and pathetic these last two games. Watching them has been painful. Watching Moore miss layups is killing me. And the turnovers have been ridiculous. Its like the D lett the building.
Come on C's get your heads out of your butts ! D up ! Play like you know how !

  1. Scal played very well when Perk was out earlier in the year. Yes, it will take some time for him to get in game shape. Not sure why he hasn't yet, but Doc will need to play TA and Walker some in Chicago. And since the Defense has been so iffy, the C's will need to keep the turnovers to a minimum. I don't ever count this team out--even with this adversity!

  1. The Celtics are Going all the way and they are fixin on repeatin for the first time since the '60s. Posey hasn't been playing all that great for NO in the playoffs. We needed him last year. Let's think thoughts of winnin of who we got. Rondo has gotten a lot better. Big Baby is a Boss and gettin it done like Larry the Cable guy. Scal's coming back and knows how play good D and hit the open Jumper. Rondo is going to be an All Star Next and is a consistent threat to the opponent. Ray and Paul still kick ass. Mikki Moore and Marbury are the ace in the hole just waitin on surprise folks. Eddie House still knows what it's about. Bill Walker can come in there and take over where Tony Allen left off. I am very optomistic about a repeat. Cleveland is

Garnett will be back by the conference finals.
Let us all pray for the Celtics. They need are help

  1. I agree that Posey would have been a help for us, but no KG is the biggest factor.
The Celtics definitely need to play better defense for the remainder of the playoffs.
I also think that Tony Allen needs to play. He is a great defensive player and needs to play for the remainder of the games in the playoffs.

  1. Much bigger concern is Paul Pierce, lately his talking is bigger than his play, in the first 2 games he looked old, slow and unathleltic, not to mention he cost them the first game. In the final querter of game 2 he looked totaly out of gas.

  1. Would you rather have Bill Walker 6'6" 220 playing the power or Brian Scal 6'9" 240 playing the power. Although I like Walker's athleticism, he really cannot match up against Chicago's bigs, (Joakim Noah, Tyrus Thomas, Brad Miller, Aaron Gray, etc.), whereas Scal can actually space the floor and he actually knows the defensive schemes for the Celtics. Lets face it, as depleted as the Celtics front line is, I think we'd take any big body at this point, even if the player isn't elite. They can still rack up fouls!

  1. The Celtics are going all the way. They are fixin on repeating. Paul Pierce and
Ray Allen are still bosses. Big Baby is kickin butt. Eddie House still knows what winnin is about. Perk knows how to ti work it. Gabe Pruitt can step in and help out. Walker can take over where Powe left off. Scal is back ready to take charges and knock down shots. Pray for the Celtics all the time. Let's see championship 18.

  1. hello from cleveland
that dude aint going to help your squad any..
    tooo much rust on him..
and your GM should have kept posey, he was a monster off your bench.
oh well . there is always next year.
    have a nice day

  1. Stop it already, the Team is in dire need at every position at this point. But most of you guys are talking about Cleveland and the finals with the Lakers. What about the bulls..... they have handed our a@#%! to us every time this series so far. The C's team defense is non -existent. Paul pierce looks sluggish with no pep, Ray Allen is in another damn shooting slump. My gawd, Let's not talk about Mikey Moore and Steph. They both are garbage. The celtics will be lucky if they make it out of the 1st round. Let's face it's over.
