Tony Allen -- he's back

Posted by Frank Dell'Apa, Globe Staff April 1, 2009 11:09 AM

Tony Allen, who has missed 35 games with injuries this season, will return to action when the Celtics play host to Charlotte tonight.

Allen has not played since Feb. 8. Allen, who injured his left thumb in practice two days later and has been out for 22 successive games, went through a full practice session Tuesday.

"I'm going to give it a shot and see how it goes," Allen said after a morning shootaround. "Today is a big day for me. I'm not looking at going out and scoring 50 points, nothing like that. Just getting in a rhythm and getting a feel for my new teammates and just trying to do what I can do to help."

  1. What's % of games has he been on the DL for over the course of his career? It's gotta be a Boston Celtics record.

  1. It'll be nice to get some healthy bodies back on the C's bench. Let's hope Tony can progress well from here on out.

  1. I know, 50 points??? Tony will be lucky if he scores 50 points over the course of the rest of the season. In a year Bill Walker will be able to do everything TA can, except Walker has size and still has his athletic ability. It was unfortunate that they signed him again, and now he is going to cut into BW's minutes. More than likely though he will have a bad game and then get injured again and miss the playoffs.

  1. To answer number 1 -

Looking at his career stats, including this season, he has played in 276 of 403 possible games. That's a little over 30% of the games missed.

  1. HE IS A CELTIC, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES HE HAS BEEN INJURED.
HE WAS THERE LAST YEAR FOR THE PLAYOFFS, THIS IS WHAT WE NEED.
HOPEFULLY HE WILL STAY HEALTHY AND BE OF SOME HELP, ESPECIALLY
GIVING PP A REST HERE AND THERE AND RAY ALLEN. THESE TWO GUYS
HAVE BEEN THE WORK HORSES FOR THIS TEAM THIS YEAR. NOW LET'S
CONCENTRATE ON GETTING LEON BACK. WE NEED HELP IN THE MIDDLE,
UNDER THE BASKET. MIKKI HAS BEEN DOING A GOOD JOB THIS LAST
FEW GAMES, BUT NO ONE IS AS GOOD AS LEON AT OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING
    AND SCORING UNDERNEATH THE BASKET.

  1. SORRY TO HEAR FROM SUCH PESSIMISTIC FANS OR NON FANS.I'M PRETTY SURE TONY ALLEN WANTS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE CELTICS.I ALSO LIKE BILL WALKER.WE SHOULD FEEL HAPPY THAT WE HAVE THEM BOTH.
MAY THE TWO OF THEM DO WELL TOGETHER.THEY ARE TWO TOUGH
CELTICS,WHO WONT BACK DOWN. OKAY WE DON'T HAVE K.G.,BUT WE DO HAVE DAVIS AND PERKINS AND MOORE,LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS.
