Sir Charles -- I like Orlando

Posted by Gary Dzen, Boston.com Staff May 3, 2009 12:36 PM

TNT NBA analyst Charles Barkley has already made his prediction for the Celtics-Magic series, which starts Monday:

"Boston has no shot at beating Orlando," said Barkley. "Without Kevin Garnett, (the Celtics) struggled against the Bulls. I don't think they have a chance and Orlando wins it in 6."

  1. Charles Who??? I think that he lost his credibility when he said that the Celtics had NO CHANCE, but then said that Orlando would win in 6 ?? Hmmm.....to me, that seems to open the door for the Cs to win a couple and , with their playoff experience, "steal" the series from the Magic . Goooooooo Celticssss !! Sir Charles must have been hitting the sauce again. Is there a fine for being drunk on camera???...ahhahaa

  1. He also said that Rondo rebounding is a bad habit...he knows nothing.

    GO C's!

  1. Guess what Sh!t Barkley, you're wrong! AGAIN! Celt's in 7.

  1. Charles, don't you have a meeting with a talented young lady?

  1. who ever listens to what charles barkley says anymore? who cares if he likes the magic. we dont need anybody to favor us in this series anyway. we can just prove everyone wrong again.

  1. When did he got out of jail ?

  1. maybe chicago is better than orlando at this point charles

  1. he doesn't give the bulls any credit? after nearly ten years of number one picks, they better be good. the bulls have been labeled underachieving for years, so why is this a surprise, that they take and undermanned c's to 7? they obviously have the talent and it seems the high level of competition finally brought it out in them (as it did for atlanta last year). as for next round, the c's don't have the size, speed, or bench to compete against orlando. but they do have rondo, pierce, and allen...three reasons why i pick them to beat the magic in 6 games.

  1. Wow, I'm surprised he got a coherent sentence out! Is it just me or has Barkley been rambling on and on not making complete thoughts?

Posted by Matt May 3, 09 03:28 PM
  1. Charles is right on except I say Magic in 5. The Celtics don't have a prayer in this series. Go watch your hockey team folks, the C's are done.

  1. when we had to go to game 7 with atlanta last year, no one believed us! same thing this year...
    C's all the way
GO ORLANDO yea GO TO HELL

  1. I think Charles knows what he is talking about. The Magic have been underated all year and here in Central Florida we know we have a great chance to upset the Leprachauns. GO MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!

  1. What does Charles know about winning championships ???

Posted by Robert Crabtree May 3, 09 08:23 PM
  1. Well, obviously, it wouldn't be an upset if hicksville won. Celts will upset Magic.

Posted by kaflookey May 3, 09 08:32 PM
  1. The Magic are overrated...the C's are tired, but relaxed and confident. We'll win in 7 again.

Posted by Ush May 3, 09 08:36 PM
  1. Oh gosh. He could be right. If KG brings that much intensity to the bench, then imagine what is missing from the court. The Bulls played a great series, and provided a true test to a crippled C's team. I will never count out any Boston team, but even if they do win this series, I don't think anyone is going to be able to dethrone King James this year

  1. Celtics in 5

  1. Looks like sir charles is working with his bookie on this series. Hope he won't end up lossing all his money and get pull over for drunk driving again.

  1. Wow celtics struggled with the bulls without garnett. I can't see anyone stopping Dwight howard in the paint Go orlando but its CAVS ALL THE WAY!!!

  1. I agree with Charles....Magic will win in four..Boston had a hard time even beating the Bulls..
Orlando is a good team...Hey, Boston is beatable with or wthout KG....Chicago had Boston on the ropes entire series except g3..Go Magic....Hey Boston Fans cheer on the Bruins for now...Celts are donnnnnne

  1. orlando will choke

  1. No chance? Maybe against Cleveland, but not this fraud team. Let's recap: The only 2 games Orlando won against Boston this year was a buzzer beater and a missed 3 by Ray Allen. Not exactly dominating.

Howard has been underwhelming when matched against Perkins. The #1 key in this series is both Howard and Perkins' foul situation.

  1. I'm always curious about these kind of predictions. So should the Celtics not even show up? Some of you guys don't understand the mind of professional athletes.

Posted by Tom May 3, 09 11:56 PM
  1. Not exactly smart words from an All Star who’s never won an NBA Championship. The Celtics are hurting and lack the Big Ticket, but they have a lot of HEART and it's not over yet. Even the bench is pulling their weight. Big Baby is doing a great job out there as forward support and the rest of the bench is pitching in too. Besides, Doc, Pierce, Allen and Rondo and KG "bench support" can still move forward to the finals and repeat. Besides, what if Howard or Lewis gets injured? "It's not even close to over for the Celtics!

  1. Magic have consistently choked in big games/big series. Until the Magic prove otherwise, they will not beat the Celtics in a 7-game series, Garnett or no Garnett. BTW, where are all those people who were saying the Bulls were going to beat the C's..? 100 or so posts last week and they all vanished..? Hmmm....Ubuntu.

  1. lol i live in central Florida and nobody is feeling the freakin Magic, lets be serious here, they have a minuscule fanbase full of tourists who need a night away from Disney World. GO CELTICS.

  1. Well, I have the same number of championship rings as Charles, and I disagree.

  1. Orlando winning would not be and upset as Orlando is favorite to win on the vegas odds,

boston will sweep perk will shut down mr howard

Posted by TONY May 4, 09 04:16 AM
  1. Being the 3rd seed in what has been a 3 seed conference all year (BOS, CLE, ORL), can you really call beating the C's w/o Garnett an upset????

Of Course Orlando should be favored.....but the '08 Lakers were favored as well.

    GO C's!!!

  1. Actually, the fact that Charles is picking the Magic indicates that the C's have a legitimate chance of winning. He usually has his head up his butt which is probably why he usually spews useless waste out of his mouth. Perhaps Charles you should go have a few more drinks and see if you can get another DUI. Yes, this will be a tough series, but I think we can pull it off. Dwight Howard definitely will be a problem especially since we're hurting for bigs and Perkins is foul-prone or should I say gets a lot called on him regardless of whether he committed the foul or not. On another note, I like the Hawks/Cavs matchup. I think the Hawks could surprise some people or at least make this a series.

  1. I think the Magic should just be thankful they didn't face the Bulls in the first round or they would already be on the links. Even without Garnett, Celtics in Six! Since when did Charles become a credible source anyways? While I do find him humourous, he is the last guy I would be soliciting advice from...

  1. underrated? their star player is mystifying-- constantly at odds with the coach, only shows effort for maybe 40% of the time he's on the court, and yet arguably one of the most genetically gifted athletes out there... if they've been evaluated poorly, it's because it's earned.

Posted by bean May 4, 09 01:14 PM
  1. Go Celtics (In 7!!!!!!) Maybe 6! Charles in kinda right though because we (Celtics) can't hold with dwight howard without KG.

Posted by Brandon Rozmus May 4, 09 02:48 PM
  1. who listens to this fool, he never won a championship bc he didn't have the heart, drive and determination the Celts have! Let's find the fire boys!

    Posted by D May 4, 09 03:18 PM
  1. First of all, it would not be an upset for Orlando to beat Boston.

We've got some solid scoring capability on the floor, and Rondo, Perkins, and Big Baby have stepped up nicely. However, without KG, the defense is just not there. So weird how that works. With him, we smother, without him, we're mediocre in that regard. This is last series, and I'm thinking 6, tops.

  1. Ignore Greg- he's spent too much Magic Kingdom time wearing the "Goofy" costume in 90 degree temps.

Posted by Dave Singleton May 4, 09 04:11 PM
  1. Cs in 7, despite what the national media thinks. They've got too much heart and too much wily, veteran talent to go out in the 2nd round. They'll make adjustments and figure out a way to contain Howard.

Posted by CC May 4, 09 04:26 PM
  1. He's an Obama supporter so does this surprise anyone ? He's on the bandwagon for 2 losers now.

Posted by Gary May 4, 09 04:38 PM
  1. Mmmhmm. "No chance" + "Magic in 6" tells me Charles is trying to have it both ways. No chance means we're done in 4. Going six means it's a fairly close series that could hinge on a couple of plays. He also fails to point out that the Bulls were a much better team (17-11) post-break than they were pre-break, and the Sixers, whom the Magic struggled to beat in six, had lost 6 of their last 7 heading into the post-season.

No KG makes this series a tough one to be sure. It'd be tough even with KG, but let's be honest people. The Celtics series against the Bulls proves the C's can beat a rising group of young athletes. The Magic's win over the Sixers proves they can struggle to beat a team that shouldn't have even made the post-season.
Celtics in 6 due to a vastly superior backcourt, a tough-as-nails defensive center and Captain Clutch.

  1. Sir Charles must have been a god at tent city telling those cons how great he still thinks he is. With this prediction, I figure his pink under wear must be too tight on his brain.

He's the only one I see so far that has the balls to pick ORLANDO yet again over LA.- Gotta love Sir charles!
