Final, Celtics 98-95
The Blazers were confused on the final play and Rudy Fernandez fired up two forced 3-pointers. Kendrick Perkins gathered the rebound and fired the ball to the other end of the court as the buzzer sounded. A gritty win, but remember the Blazers were without their best player -- Brandon Roy -- and second-year guard Jerryd Bayless who had 12 points in 19 minutes before an ankle sprain.
Overtime, 12.5, Celtics 98-95
OK folks, LaMarcus Aldridge missed a 16-footer and the Celtics came up with a scramble of the ball and Tony Allen streaked for a dunk. Portland ball.
Overtime, 41.3, Celtics 96-95
After the Celtics got a big stop, stealing the ball from Juwan Howard after he grabbed an offensive rebound, Ray Allen broke the curse that had been set on him, canning a 3-pointer for the lead.
Overtime, 1:20, Blazers 95-93
Rajon Rondo began the period with a jumper but the Blazers got three shot attempts at the basket before scoring (Juwan Howard tip in) and then after a Ray Allen miss, Andre Miller came back with a spinning layup.
End of regulation, Tied at 91
LaMarcus Aldridge falls short on an alley-oop shot but the Blazers will take overtime after trailing by five points with 2:36 left. They have all the momentum. The Celtics shot 13-for-34 (38 percent) in the second half.
Fourth quarter, 1.1, Tied at 91
Paul Pierce thought he has a clear path to the basket but Andre Miller stepped in front and drew a charge. Portland ball.
Fourth quarter, 13.5, Tied at 91
Martell Webster evened the score with a 20-footer with 34.2 left. Paul Pierce countered with a fadeaway that clanged off the rim but Rajon Rondo gathered the rebound and the Celtics have the ball for the final shot.
Fourth quarter, 47.6, Celtics 91-89
Rajon Rondo missed an easy layup on the weak side and Portland rebounded the ball and called time out.
Fourth quarter, 1:03, Celtics 91-89
The Celtics had a chance to go up seven but Rajon Rondo turned the ball over and Martell Webster responded with a 3-pointer as the 24-second clock expired. Webster has 17 points on 4-for-14 shooting but has been effective in the second half. Ray Allen is 2-for-11 from the field and obviously pressing. Celtics ball.
Fourth quarter, 3:03, Celtics 89-85
The Celtics are struggling to put Portland away and Andre Miller (25 points) just scored and was fouled and will have a chance to make it a one-possession game with three minutes left.
Fourth quarter, 5:20, Celtics 87-81
The Blazers briefly took the lead at 77-76 but the Celtics have responded with an 11-4 run, helped by an obvious travel non-call on Kevin Garnett, who took three steps and then handed the ball to Rajon Rondo for a layup. Garnett has 13 points and just two rebounds in 20 minutes for the Celtics, who are shooting 11-for-28 (39 percent) in the second half.
Fourth quarter, 8:43, Celtics 76-75
Since the first half, the Celtics are 7-for-23 from the field for 26 points after scoring 50 in the first half on 22-for-38 shooting. Ray Allen is passing up shot after shot while Kevin Garnett remains on the bench.
End of third quarter, Celtics 74-69
At least the Celtics didn't get outscored in the third quarter. They tied at 24. Ray Allen is 2-for-10 from the field and is hesitant with his outside shot. Kevin Garnett didn't get much action in the period because he picked up his fourth foul.
Third quarter, 2:41, Celtics 72-66
The Celtics have withstood a major Portland run -- the Blazers had the ball with a chance to take the lead -- and have responded with a flurry of their own. Paul Pierce has 17 and Rasheed Wallace 14. Jerryd Bayless will not return to the game because of a strained left ankle. He had 12 points.
Third quarter, 9:04, Celtics 59-56
The Celtics started out by scoring the first four points of the period but now have allowed six straight, four by Martell Webster, including a pretty reverse alley-oop.
Halftime, Celtics 55-50
Portland cut the deficit to two with a 11-2 run but the Celtics responded with a 5-0 run and Paul Pierce's layup rolled out that would have made it a nine-point lead. LaMarcus Aldridge ended the quarter with a jump hook. Kevin Garnett has 11 points but three fouls as does Kendrick Perkins. Aldridge has 16 points.
Second quarter, 3:08, Celtics 50-46
The Celtics have gone cold and the Blazers have responded with a 9-2 run and Andre Miller is finding it easy to roam and drive for easy layups. He already has 12 points. Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace each have 11.
Second quarter, 7:54, Celtics 42-31
The Celtics have started the quarter 5 for 5 and are on a 14-6 run. Rasheed Wallace has seven points off the bench against his former team. Brian Scalabrine was a late scratch with a strained shoulder.
End of first quarter, Celtics 30-25
The Celtics have begun the game hitting 12 of 19 shots and Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce each has nine points.
First quarter, 2:43, Tied at 21
Kevin Garnett has warmed up, scoring nine points in a seven-minute stretch but the Celtics aren't exactly stopping anybody defensively. Portland is 8-for-17 from the field and the interior players are having their way.
First quarter, 6:05, Blazers 15-10
The Celtics started out fast fueled by Kevin Garnett's but matters have settled and Portland is playing well without Brandon Roy. Juwan Howard has four points.
