Celtics' coach Doc Rivers underwent minor throat surgery Sunday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital and missed practice Monday. Rivers could return for the Celtics' game against New Jersey Wednesday.

Assistant coach Lawrence Frank said the operation was planned and Rivers could be back as soon as Tuesday's practice session.

"Right now the doctor doesn't want him using his voice," Frank said of Rivers. "Everything looks good and he's looking forward to getting back. They just want him to rest his voice box. Obviously, he'll be using it quite a bunch, so he'll have plenty of time."

Center Jermaine O'Neal "went full tilt," according to Frank.

Marquis Daniels (rotator cuff) participated only in non-contact drills. Guard Delonte West (back spasms) remains out.
