Final: Celtics 112, Heat 107

Final, Celtics 112-107Boston improves to 2-0 against the new-look Heat this season with an impressive but more-exciting-than-should-have-been win over the Heat. The Celtics shot 54.4 percent from the field and Ray Allen scored a season-high 35 points. If there was a question about which was the better team, those questions have been answered. Miami is 5-4. The Celtics are 7-2.

Fourth quarter, 13.3, Celtics 110-107 Celtics as usual are making this interesting with two straight empty trips followed by four more Miami points. Celtics have the ball but just called timeout before the 5-second call on the inbounds pass.

Fourth quarter, 47.8, Celtics 110-103 Paul Pierce comes back with a jumper and Ray Allen a fastbreak layup to open the lead to 11. Despite two Miami baskets, the Celtics are holding on

Fourth quarter, 3:24, Celtics 106-99 Celtics can't stop fouling LeBron James and their offense is sputtering but they are trying to hang on. BOS ball and the starting five is on the floor. LeBron James has 33 points while Eddie House and Udonis Haslem have combined for 28.

Fourth quarter, 7:02, Celtics 102-89 Udonis Haslem cuts deficit to eight with jumper but the Celtics come back with five straight, three on a Ray Allen jumper in which all five players touched the ball on the possession. Miami timeout. Celtics already have four team fouls to Miami's one.

Fourth quarter, 8:35, Celtics 97-87 Celtics are holding serve but James Jones responds with a big 3-pointer and the Heat get a stop so they have a chance to cut the lead to single digits. Doc Rivers is going with the bench for big minutes and so far the lead is slipping.

End of third quarter, Celtics 88-78 Miami shoots 66 percent from the field in the quarter and ends the quarter on an 8-2 run. The Celtics are in serious foul trouble with Big Baby with 5 and Shaq with 5. LeBron James has 27 points and Ray Allen has 26 and Paul Pierce 23 for Boston.

Third quarter, 6:33, Celtics 72-58 Celtics led by as many as 20 but they are committing fouls and sending the Heat to the free throw line. Miami has attempted 25 free throws to Boston's 15. Ray Allen has 23 for Boston and five 3-pointers.

Halftime, Celtics 61-46 Paul Pierce completes a brilliant first half with a running scoop shot that banked in at the buzzer. Boston improves to 60 percent from the field and Ray Allen has dropped 18 points and four 3-pointers. Rajon Rondo has nine assists and Kevin Garnett 10 rebounds. LeBron James leads MIA with 15 points and Chris Bosh has 9 and 6 rebounds. Dwyane Wade has 2 points on 0-for-6 shooting.

Second quarter, 17.3, Celtics 59-46 Celtics have played a superb first half but they are in foul trouble. Shaquille O'Neal and Glen Davis each have three fouls and they have been called for 15 fouls to Miami's 9. The Heat are shootign 41 percent and the Celtics are at 59.

Second quarter, 4:41, Celtics 48-34 Heat cut the lead to 34-29 but the Celtics are playing with more passion and precision than Miami, scoring the last seven points, including a 3-pointer from Ray Allen and a 20-footer from Kevin Garnett. Allen has 12 and Garnett 11.

End of first quarter, Celtics 27-20 The Celtics bench allowed the lead to slip a little as Eddie House came off the bench for nine big points, equaling the amount of the starting five combined. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh combined for one point. Ray Allen has nine points for Boston and Rajon Rondo six.

First quarter, 55.6, Celtics 25-17 The Celtics bench is struggling a bit and LeBron James is leading a mini-rally. In two minutes, Nate Robinson has a technical, turnover and missed free throw. The Celtics are shooting 55.6 percent from the field, the Heat 40.

First quarter, 2:49, Celtics 22-13 Celtics are trying to withstand a surge by Miami without Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Eddie House hit three straight free throws, one of those on a technical from Nate Robinson, who tried to show an official that he held his arms straight up and didn't foul House. He held them up too long.

First quarter, 3:21, Celtics 22-10 Boston has led by as many as 11 and is dominating in the early going. Ray Allen already has nine points and Rajon Rondo just dunked on the whole team, prompting a 20-second time out fron Miami.

First quarter, 8:15, Celtics 14-5 Boston showing for effective it can be with two days rest. The Celtics have started off 6-for-9 from the field and Ray Allen has seven points as they have raced off to a fast start.

First quarter, 10:13, Celtics 8-4 Celtics off to a fast start and Shaq just completed a three-point play. LeBron James has both buckets for Miami.
