The Celtics held Kendrick Perkins out of practice today, but he expects to be back on the practice floor next week.

Kendrick Perkins, recovering from a torn ACL, was cleared to practice yesterday, but Rivers decided to hold him out because the session was so physical.

“He didn’t do anything live,” Rivers said. “We went pretty hard, so I didn’t want him out there in that. But he did the skeleton stuff and he did some running up and down. We did a lot of contact stuff and I didn’t want him to be a part of that.

“It was a good practice actually, but I knew we were going to do a lot of live hard stuff, and too many bodies, too many feet. I didn’t want him involved.”

Perkins did skeleton drills, running the floor and working on cuts. He said he still expects to return to full practice in a week and be back in games in three weeks.
“Another week and they’ll slowly put me in,” Perkins said. “I’m just anxious to get back out there … I know it’s in my best interests. So if they say one more week, I’ll go one more week.”
