Final: Wizards 85, Celtics 83

Final Wizards 85-83 A really bad loss here. Paul Pierce missed his customary elbow jumper in the final seconds and the Celtics finished the game shooting 43 percent, missing 38 of their final 57 shots, including 18 of 23 in the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter, 57.7, Wizards 84-81 John Wall just banked in a desperation 3-pointer as the shot clock expired, so you know who's got the good fortune here. The Celtics are 18 for 54 from the field since the first quarter and 4 for 20 in the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter, 2:45, Tied at 79 Celtics are 3-for-17 from the field in the fourth quarter and have blown every chance possible to build a lead because the defense is getting stops. And the Celtics are 17-for-51 from the field since the first quarter. They can't score right now.

Fourth quarter, 8:46, Celtics 77-74 This has turned into a game after the Celtics built a 16-point lead in the first half. Rashard Lewis has 18 points for Washington while Al Thornton has eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

End of third quarter, Celtics 72-70 The Celtics were caught at 70 on an Andray Blatche jumper with 26.9 left in the period but Nate Robinson responded with a jumper to give Boston back the lead. A troublesome quarter for the Celtics, who put Washington to the free throw line and allowed Blatche and JaVale McGee to dominate in the paint.

Third quarter, 2:40, Celtics 68-62 Wizards drew to within one with a 8-0 run but the Celtics have scored the last five. The Celtics didn't put Washington away when they had the chance and now the Wiz have confidence. John Wall has eight points and just two assists in 27 minutes.

Third quarter, 6:12, Celtics 63-59 The Celtics are trying to coast and the WIzards are playing harder and making plays. Of course, Boston committed five team fouls in the first six minutes and the Wizards are in the penalty. Rashard Lewis has 16 points and JaVale McGee 13 for the Wizards.

Halftime, Celtics 56-46 Boston has led the entire way but Washington showed some life in the second quarter, scoring 26 points, including nine by JaVale McGee. Kevin Garnett leads Boston with 11 points and Ray Allen has 10. Rajon Rondo has 9 points and 7 assists compared to 6 and 3 for rookie point guard John Wall.

Second quarter, 2:15, Celtics 51-44 The lead is now down to seven after the Celtics led by as many as 16. The Wizards have heated up, especially JaVale McGee, who has 11 points as Washington is shooting 47 percent. The Celtics are 5-for-12 in the period and have missed four free throws in the quarter.

Second quarter, 5:00, Celtics 44-36 The Wizards are methodically working themselves back into this game, outscoring Boston 16-7 in the quarter. The Celtics are 3-for-10 from the field after shooting 68 percent in the first. You knew the Celtics were going to get bored with the big lead.

Second quarter, 7:22, Celtics 42-29 Boston has cooled off to begin the quarter as the Wizards started the period with an 8-2 run but the bench is holding on to the lead as Glen Davis and Marquis Daniels have combined for eight points. Rashard Lewis has 12 for Washington.

End of first quarter, Celtics 35-20 A dominant quarter for the Celtics, who shot 68 percent in the quarter and got baskets from six players. Ray Allen has 10 points and Rajon Rondo has seven with five assists. Mustafa Shakur, a signee today from the D-League, has five for Washington and has been a spark.

First quarter, 4:26, Celtics 24-11 Boston is off to a blazing start, hitting 10 of its first 13 shots and Ray Allen already has 10 points while Paul Pierce has six points and four rebounds. Glen Davis has already drawn a charge on John Wall, his 36th of the season.

First quarter, 7:30, Celtics 16-7 The Celtics are hit six of the first eight shots and the ball is moving with precision. Rajon Rondo already has four assists while Ray Allen and Paul Pierce each have six points. Semih Erden has just one foul and three rebounds. Washington, which played last night at home, appears uninterested defensively so far.

First quarter, 10:10, Tied at 2 It's a full house at the Verizon Center and lots of Celtics fans. Ray Allen starts off with an 18-foot jumper and Rashard Lewis counters with a 16-footer from the baseline.
