Celtics captain Paul Pierce (heel bruise) took part in shooting drills at practice Thursday but his status remains in doubt for Sunday's season-opener at New York.

"We'll wait until Saturday," coach Doc Rivers said of determining Pierce's availability.

Rivers said that even if Pierce is cleared to play, he might not start.
