PRACTICE UPDATES:

*Jeff Green practiced for the first time after signing a one-year deal to remain in Boston but Brandon Bass was not present as the league is still processing the paperwork from the trade for Glen Davis.

*Keyon Dooling also worked out and said he is thrilled to be a Celtic. Said he has conversations with teammates, including Ray Allen, about the new collective bargaining agreement because he is on the NBPA executive committee and there are differing opinions about the new deal. Dooling will wear #51.

*Doc Rivers said that Kevin Garnett will play for center this season because of his experience and savvy playing against bigger players. If Jermaine O'Neal is dealt to New Orleans as expected, Garnett will be the team's only legit center.

*Paul Pierce sat out practice because of a heel problem but is expected to return Sunday or Monday. The Celtics had nine players workout Saturday.

*Players such as Dooling, rookies JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore, Jamal Sampson, Gilbert Brown and Greg Stiemsma were learning the offense near the end of practice.

*Garnett told reporters that he is healthy and got a lot of extra sleep during the lockout.

*O'Neal, despite the trade rumors, participated in practice and said he would only play for a contending team this season if dealt.
