Want a reason why the Celtics are 4-6 and have lost three straight games, look at the first quarter. The numbers are ugly as the Celtics continue to plague themselves with slow starts and spend the final three quarters chasing opposing teams. And the good teams -- such as Indiana, Dallas and Chicago tonight -- are good enough to stave off those rallies.

HERE ARE FIRST QUARTER NUMBERS FOR PAST 5 GAMES

Opponent -------- Shooting % ------- Score
CHI ----------------- 5-20 ------------ 13-26
DAL ----------------- 5-18 -------------15-23
IND ------------------6-16 -------------14-14
NJN ----------------- 8-18 -------------18-17
WSH -----------------9-27 -------------23-24

TOTALS ---------- 33-99 (33%) ------83-104

First quarter point average -- 16.6
