NEW YORK -- A few hours after telling reporters he was ready to return tonight against the New York Knicks, Ray Allen was a late scratch because his right ankle began causing discomfort during the afternoon. Tonight will be the fifth game Allen has missed with the sore ankle.

“It didn’t flare up, as far as the movement and mobility from this morning, it wasn’t to my liking,” Allen said. “I couldn’t get the pushing off that I wanted so I got to let it kind of relax a little bit more before I get back out there.”

Mickael Pietrus (right knee) was also out and sent back to Boston for further examination. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said playing Pietrus in three games in three nights likely led to his knee discomfort.

Both Allen and Pietrus are uncertain for Wednesday's home game against the Orlando Magic.
