The Celtics have waived forwards Kris Joseph and Jarvis Varnado, an NBA source confirmed to the Globe. Both players were waived ahead of the deadline for non-guaranteed contracts to become guaranteed for the rest of the season.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers hinted at Varnado's departure this week, saying he wished he could keep the "springy" forward. The Celtics signed Varnado out of the Developmental League on Dec. 24.

Joseph was Boston's 51st pick in the 2012 draft. The Syracuse product averaged 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 10 games with the Celtics' D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.
