Final, Celtics win, 100-89: The Celtics have won their sixth straight. The Bobcats had some offensive firepower, but couldn't put together a consistent attack against this Celtics defensive unit that has allowed less than 100 points for the seventh straight game. Rondo finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. He turned the ball over just twice. The Celtics will host Austin Rivers and the Hornets on Wednesday.
Fourth quarter, 2:46, Celtics lead, 92-83: Rondo has a triple-double, his third of the season and 26th of his career. The past three games might sum up Rondo as a player: Even when he's off, he's productive. Then when he's on...
Fourth quarter, 3:36, Celtics lead, 89-81: Rondo is having one of those nights. This time, he leads the Celtics on a 9-0 run, assisting on three baskets and scoring on the other. With 15 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, he's close to a triple-double. Rivers is leaving Rondo in for this one.
Third quarter, 2:13, Celtics lead, 72-64: In his seventh game of the year, Avery Bradley finally looks comfortable at the 3-point line. He was four for 19 (21 percent) from downtown before Monday. He's four for seven in this game, including a huge trey to give the Celtics a 7-point cushion after the Bobcats had went on a run.
Third quarter, 7:48, 58-58: In each of the last three games there's been a stretch where the Celtics have been caught napping. The Bobcats opened the half with a 9-0 run against the Celtics starting unit.
End of first half, Celtics lead, 56-45: Celtics are spreading the ball around with four players at 9 points or more. Jared Sullinger hasn't played much, with three fouls in just five minutes. The starters have done much of the work as they continue to frustrate the young Bobcats, who have collected a flagrant foul and a technical foul thus far.
Second quarter, 5:48, Celtics lead, 42-32: Kevin Garnett was mugged by Gerald Henderson and lost his cool for a second, needing to be held back by his teammates. Henderson was called for a flagrant and Doc Rivers pulled Garnett to the bench once he shot his free throws.
Second quarter, 6:30, Celtics lead, 42-30: Jeff Green has looked more and more comfortable of late and he came out to play tonight. Green has 9 points in nine minutes. He caught the Bobcats napping when he received the ball in the corner of the court and drove to the basket uncontested for a one-handed dunk.
End of first quarter, Celtics lead, 28-18: Rondo with an electric first quarter, scoring 9 points with five assists and six rebounds in 11 minutes. This is the first time in the last two games where the starters put the Celtics out to a big lead, now it's time for the second unit to do its work.
First quarter, 1:28, Celtics lead, 25-15: The Bobcats are among the younger teams in the NBA and they're playing with plenty of speed, but the Celtics are matching it with grit and elegance. They're 11 for 16 from the floor. Defensively, every starter other than Rondo has already blocked a shot. Jason Collins, who hasn't played much lately with a nagging hamstring, has checked in at center.
First quarter, 5:32, Celtics lead, 19-8: Rajon Rondo is responsible for all of the Celtics buckets right now with 7 points and five assists. Before the game he was asked if he would participate in the All-Star Game skills competition and he said he has to first make the All-Star team. Leading the league in assists, that doesn't look like a problem.
The Bobcats won just a single game in the month of December and have just one win thus far in January, but their offense is equally as potent as that of the Celtics, who are looking for their sixth straight win.
