Rondo suspended for one game for making contact with official

Celtics guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended one game for making contact with an official during Saturday's game against the Atlanta Hawks and for failure to cooperate with a league investigation.

Rondo will serve the suspension against the Knicks tonight in New York.

The announcement came from league discipline chief Stu Jackson.

With 3:19 remaining in the third quarter of the Celtics’ 89-81 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday, Rondo was called for an offensive foul on a drive to the basket. He went up to referee Rodney Mott and bumped into him as the two walked back up the court.

The point guard was suspended by the NBA for two games in November after a fight with Kris Humphries that made its way into the stands in a loss to the Nets at TD Garden.

Rondo was also suspended in a game last May for bumping an official in the Celtics playoff series against the Hawks.

The suspension is Rondo’s fourth in 12 months for on-court incidents.

In Rondo’s absence, the Celtics will likely start Jason Terry alongside Avery Bradley in the backcourt.

In 29 games this season, Rondo has been averaging 13.2 points and 11.3 assists per game.
