WALTHAM -- Center Fab Melo will be placed on the active list and available tonight for the Celtics matchup with the Orlando Magic.

Melo was recalled from NBADL Maine to rehabilitate a quadriceps injury but the club has decided to keep him on the active roster for the first time this season. Melo, one of the team's two first-round picks, has not played in an NBA game this season.

"That's the thing I've been working hard for, been looking forward to this time," he said after working out with assistant coach Jay Larranaga following shootaround. "I'm very excited and I want to be there and help the team."

Melo averaged 11.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks in 19 games for the Red Claws.

Meanwhile, rookie Jared Sullinger was not present at Celtics' shootaround because of back spasms and it is uncertain whether he will play against Orlando. Sullinger, who has played in the first 45 games, left the win over Sacramento with 7:52 left in the first quarter because of back issues.
