The Celtics announced Friday that they have reassigned Fab Melo to their NBA Development League team, the Maine Red Claws.

Melo, a rookie center from Syracuse, is returning to the Red Claws after a stint with the Celtics where he appeared in two games. During those games, Melo played eight minutes and recorded two points, a steal and a block. His two points were his first as an NBA player, and they came Thursday during the Celtics' 116-95 rout of the Lakers at the Garden.

Melo, one of the Celtics' two first-round draft picks from 2012, averaged 11.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 blocks in 19 games for the Red Claws.
