Lakers forward Pau Gasol (foot) won't play against Celtics
By Baxter Holmes
Globe Staff
Lakers forward Pau Gasol will not play against the Celtics Thursday at TD Garden after an MRI Wednesday revealed that he has a partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot.
Gasol is out indefinitely with that injury, which he suffered Tuesday when the Lakers played Brooklyn. He will fly back to Los Angeles Thursday to be examined by team doctors.
Gasol is averaging 13.4 points and 8 rebounds for the 23-26 Lakers, who have won six of their last seven games.
The Lakers have already been without Dwight Howard, who hasn't played the last six games because of a shoulder injury, and Jordan Hill, who is out for the season with a hip injury, so Gasol's absence seriously thins out what was already a thin front line.
