WALTHAM -- The Celtics were without key contributor Jared Sullinger at practice Tuesday because of an ailing right knee. He underwent an MRI on the knee this afternoon and the team revealed last this afternoon that it is a bone bruise and he is considered "day to day."
It is uncertain whether Sullinger will play Wednesday night against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Sullinger sustained the injury in the second quarter of Monday's 120-105 win over the Orlando Magic, taking a charge from Maurice Harkless. Sullinger appeared to favor his midsection and remained in the game and scored 14 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists in nearly 26 minutes.
After missing the season opener because of a team suspension, Sullinger is averaging 11.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in a reserve role.
"Jared got hit on that collision under the basket and he's got a sore knee," Celtics coach Brad Stevens said before the MRI results. "Nothing conclusive and certainly day-to-day what they're looking. But we just don't know yet. We want to make sure."
