Following a loss to the Bulls Thursday night, the Celtics — losers of five of their last six — didn’t get back to Boston until mid-day Friday due to the first nor’easter of the year. Friday’s contest against the Pelicans will serve as one-game stay before the team heads out for a five-game Western Conference swing. New Orleans last played Wednesday when it dropped a 124-112 decision to the Timberwolves.

Pregame notes:

• The Celtics’ flight arrived around 1 p.m. this afternoon, but they weren’t about to make that an excuse for potentially playing poorly. “No excuses from our standpoint,” Brad Stevens said. “We have a game to play.”

• The staff loaded the players’ iPads with scouting information on New Orleans before the flight back to Boston, but Stevens stressed the most important thing was rest. Courtney Lee said Stevens stressed getting back on defense against what can be a quick Pelicans team.

• Jared Sullinger, who is continuing to wear a brace on his bruised left hand, maintained he’ll play through it until trainers suggest otherwise. Stevens said long-term damage is unlikely, but he did see Sulliinger a bit uncomfortable Thursday against Chicago. “I’ll just keep a pulse on that,” Stevens said.

• With this game the only one at home during a 10-day, seven-game stretch, the consensus was that looms large in terms of picking up momentum during a tough stretch. “We get this win, we start building momentum for going on the road,” Courtney Lee said. “That builds confidence and we feel comfortable about things, so we need to get this win.”
