The rest of the NBA has been unable to stop LeBron James and the Miami Heat the last two seasons, but a faulty air conditioner did the job Thursday night in San Antonio.
James left Game 1 of the NBA Finals late in the fourth quarter after cramping up so bad he needed to be helped to the bench. Without AC, temperatures inside the arena reached 90 degrees.
Without James, the Spurs broke the game open, using an 11-3 run to close out the win.
Unsurprisingly, James took some heat on Twitter for what some perceived as him pulling up lame. Some folks also sent some complaints Gatorade's way, but the beverage-maker was quick to point out that James endorses Powerade, not their product.
@ryanbkoo The person cramping wasn't our client. Our athletes can take the heat.— Gatorade (@Gatorade) June 6, 2014
On the effect of the temperature on the game, Spurs star Tim Duncan said, "It was significant."
