Coming off of the championship season, the 2008-09 year wasn't as kind to the Celtics. Kevin Garnett battled injuries for virtually the entire season, missing a total of 25 games including all of the playoffs. The team finished 62-20, good for third best in the conference. Meanwhile, Pierce missed just one game and finished the season averaging 20.5 per game. In the first round the Bulls took the Celtics to seven games, with the Celtics advancing on a 10-point Game 7 win. The Magic also took the Celtics to seven games in the following round, but spoiled Pierce and the Celtics' season with a 19-point blowout at the Garden.
