Of course, there was an ugly shadow that loomed over the Patriots' season. On Sept. 10, the Pats were caught taping the Jets' defensive signals from an on-field location. Head coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000, a record for a coach, and the Pats were slapped with a fine and stripped of their own 2008 first round draft pick. Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) pressed the issue, but further investigations have proven inconclusive and Specter has since backed off.
