NHL "Winter Classic" at Boston's Fenway Park
Hockey should be played outdoors. On a frozen pond. In staging the third Winter Classic in Boston's Fenway Park baseball stadium, the NHL got at least the first part right, treating 38,112 fans to an enchanting day of open-air hockey. The Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers skated on the portable ice where usually only grounders, double-plays, and home runs are seen. Game time temperature was 39 degrees -- a cooling system keeping the ice from literally becoming a pond. An overtime goal by Marco Sturm sent the hometown crowd home happy. ( 17 photos total)

wow!
Pack of ignoramuses! Yeah show a fight photo, that's classy! What a bunch of immature, ignorant, pig heads.
The #2 post is just absurd...if you don't like it, DONT watch. It's hockey, not ping pong.
JOEYB....You really have no idea what you are talking about.
Hey Joey B. It's called hockey. Hockey and fights go together like Boston and championships. If you want to see pictures of kittens and flowers go to National Geographic's website. Grow up!!!
Fighting is to sports as tea-birthers are to politcs.
Joey B - "Pack of ignoramuses! Yeah show a fight photo, that's classy! What a bunch of immature, ignorant, pig heads."
How is anything you said relevant? Do you not understand the sport at all? Fighting is part of the normal flow of the game, so what's wrong with showing a photo of it?
no pic of the team celebrating the win? nice job globe
Joey B,
One fight photo out of seventeen. Helloooo!!!
Sorry Joey B, you're in the minority
Sorry Joey B, you're in the minority
Hey Joey, that's hockey... why dont you do a survey of how many hockey players have a college education compared to the other major sports and then get back to us on your ignorant comment.
It was a great classy event and a milestone in New England sports. The folks who worked long hours put on a great show and have everything to be proud of! There were many many children and folks from all over who, like myself and my family, will always remember this event! I greatly thank all who made it possible.
I agree...no wonder hockey sales have been decreasing over the years...yea let's watch a bunch of ugly looking no teeth players fight....good for our kids!
Joey B. - do you not understand the concept of hockey?
GO FLYERS
Great photos.
JoeyB, what's your problem? This is a photography blog. That is a great picture.
Loved the game. Do it every year!
Wow, lighten up Joey.
What a great event....Joey B, go eat your trail mix and save a tree
Did a Philly guy take the pictures, why wasn't Bobby Orr's face shown instead of Clark's.
What exactly is wrong with showing a fight photo? Last time I checked it was part of hockey and the first Winter Classic fight to boot. Perhaps you should be less judgmental over trial things?
Where's the fight, Joey B.? Get your nose out of the National Geographic, you nerd!
Joey B...ignoramuses? I take it you aren't a follower of hockey. While I don't condone fighting...it does come with the territory sometimes in hockey. Get a grip man!
amazing shots. just amazing.
@Joey B: Not just a fight, but a historical first winter classic fight. And if you don't want to see fights then don't watch hockey. Its always been a part of the game and it will always be a part of the game
Hey Joey B, you're way out of your element. The game was unbelievable -- though unfortunately the Flyers let it slip away...
Okay, where's the photo with the Bruins players raising their sticks in salute to the fans at the end of the game?
Joey apparently wasnt at the game... (or hes a yankees fan). The game was great, the fans were awesome to us philly guys, we had a great time and Im looking forward to heading up to Boston for a sox/philllies game.
# 6: An ice-grooming machine surfaces the outdoor rink before the Winter Classic
zamboni?
GO BRUINS
It was great fun, and the weather was perfect. Had a great time.
Too bad the obvious troll posts cant just be deleted. Printing them just encourages them.
About that "get your nose out of National Geographic" comment - you should actually read National Geographic, dude. You'll see far more vicious stuff than that lame fight JoeyB is cryin' about.
MMLK. Are you trying to make some sort of argument for child rearing? You just called the players ugly and made fun of the fact that they have no teeth. What kind of example are you setting. I thought JoeyB was dumb.
The game was awesome! I felt like I was back on the pond.
Picure #1 - was that person with their arms extended wearing a "snuggie"?
What a great game! It was really fun to watch.
In photo #12 My Son is wearing the Lucic jersey, I'm wearing the Neely jersey, and our Friend is in the hooded sweat shirt and ball cap. I was looking at the photos saying what Great shots, and then I saw #12 and said "I can't believe it! There we are!" What a Great day and game that was! We had the time of our lives during the Winter Classic at Fenway! Everyone take care!
would like to purchase a copy of photo # 12 please contact me Thanks
Pic #4 said: "Complementary cushions cover the seats at Fenway Park before the Winter Classic."
How fitting that this pic shows cushions that, like almost all of them at the Winter Classic, had been "relieved" of the goodies that were supposed to be in them. The hockey cards, etc.
The little matter of the colossal rip-off that no one ever reported on or investigated.
