Inter Milan wins the Champions League

Having already won the domestic double -- the Serie A and the Italian Cup -- Inter Milan needed to beat Bayern Munich in Madrid's historic Santiago Bernabeu stadium to clinch the elusive triple with the UEFA Champions League title. Bayern Munich was also seeking the triple, but two goals by Inter Milan's Diego Milito left them short. The victory was the third Champions League crown for Inter Milan, having won back-to-back titles in 1964-65, and the second for coach Jose Mourinho, who also won with FC Porto in 2004.
