Red Sox offer deal - on Fenway bricks
The Red Sox are finally offering their fans a break - on the price of authentic Fenway Park bricks.
Just when you thought it was safe to check your email - this popped up in the old in-box Friday. The Red Sox haven't lowered ticket prices since 1918 B.C. - but you'll be happy to know that those authentic Fenway Park bricks are now available for just $75. Guess they had trouble moving them at $100 a piece - especially when the team continues to flounder around the .500 mark and languish in fourth place. Not holding my breath for a deal on tickets - after all every game is a sellout - a Fenway Park special on beer and hot dogs or a break on the cable/satellite bill thanks to a NESN rebate. To the team's credit - the Red Sox do offer "digital-only ticketing" for the $12 bleacher seats located in Copley Square for certain high-demand games so they can't be re-sold on the secondary market. That should not be a problem in September.
Perhaps someone on Yawkey Way might realize there's a minor connection between the team's apathetic underachievement on the field, and the thousands of non-existent bidders for the game-authentic merchandise (formerly known as "used sporting goods") on their auction website. Wonder if anyone actually buys any of this stuff? There were three bidders (as of Saturday) for a Kevin Youkilis Size 50 authentic Red Sox home jersey - with the price at $199.
If you already have gotten your fill of jerseys for players who no longer play in Boston, bricks - or threw your last brick at Bobby Valentine or Larry Lucchino - the site offers game-used balls (Purchase Now for $100) available from all its home games this season. And what better way to spend $100 - plus shipping and sales tax where applicable - than to purchase an actual used ball from Josh Beckett's effort on Wednesday, Aug. 8 - when he gave up three home runs and eight runs to the Rangers in just five-plus innings. Surprised they had any balls remaining for sale since so many of them left the park that afternoon.
John Lackey autographed balls are available for a minimum bid of $70. That auction closes Monday at midnight.
Coming Tuesday: John Lackey Empties - $0.01 or best offer.
