SI Bird 2.jpgCall it the ultimate SI cover jinx.

Is it possible to commit heresy against yourself?

Sports Illustrated gives it a try with this NCAA Tournament preview cover. It features Creighton senior Doug McDermott and a pair of cheerleaders. It is a replica of the SI's first cover featuring Larry Bird, and a pair of Indiana State cheerleaders, which touted Bird as "College Basketball's Secret Weapon" in 1977.

Just because McDermott is a talented scorer [he's now seventh all time among Division I players] who happens to be white and from the Midwest [Creighton is in Nebraska and McDermott is from North Dakota], doesn't mean he's another Larry Bird.

Nobody is, especially for Celtics fans.
