Johnny Football's NFL Draft Free Fall Captivates Football Fans

Johnny Manziel wilted for two hours and 45 minutes during the NFL Draft Thursday night before eventually being taken with the No. 22 pick of the first round by the Cleveland Browns.

Manziel's free-fall down the draft board became the developing story of the night after the Jacksonville Jaguars picked Oviedo, Fla., native and UCF QB Blake Bortles at No. 3 overall. If Manziel was looking for any positive omens, he didn't get it with the No. 22 pick. About 10 picks in, things began to get dire on ESPN and NFL Network.

Soon, both #SadManziel, posted by the NFL, and #BeforeManzielGetsDrafted filled Twitter feeds across the country:

Manziel showed remarkable poise when he was finally chosen. His delayed selection proved all those NFL Insiders and Experts to be on target when they predicted he would not go early. Even Jerry Jones and the home-state Cowboys took a pass on the pride of Kerrville, Texas at No. 15.

While Manziel may get the last laugh since he will have a shot to play in the NFL, for most of the night he was squirming and fidgeting for the cameras.

A photoshopped image of Manziel downing a beer on TV made the rounds. Naturally, it turned out to be a fake. But as Manziel waited, there were plenty of Twitter users who enjoyed his slide and may have downed a few while before coming up with some of these gems.

Of course, there was a @JohnnyPickedYet Twitter feed that kept people entertained and gained more than 1,200 followers:

"Who the hell is Mel Kiper?" anyway.

But did he have breakfast at Taco Bell:

Of course, South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney was the No. 1 overall pick by the Houston Texans and the Patriots chose Florida defensive lineman Dominique Easley at No. 29. He tore his ACL in UF's third game of the season in 2013 but has reportedly fully healed.

Sure looks a lot better than #SadManziel.
