Watch: Jerry Remy Loses Tooth During NESN Red Sox Telecast

Watching the Red Sox in 2014 has often felt like pulling teeth.

Wednesday was no different as the Cubs hit four home runs and swept a three-game series against Boston at Fenway Park with a 16-9 bludgeoning of the Red Sox.

During the game, NESN announcer Jerry Remy took that "teeth" cliche literally and lost a tooth during the top of the fourth inning.

NESN announcer Dr. Don Orsillo, DDS, tried to take control of the situation and did his best to convince Remy that he could put the tooth back into his mouth.

It didn't work.

The way things are going, this may end up being the comedic highpoint of the entire season. Watch the entire video here:

The Cubs demolished Boston in a game that was the longest of the season in the majors. It felt like a baseball version of root canal for anyone who watched it.

Five different Red Sox pitchers, starting with Brandon Workman [4 IP, 5H, 6R, 6ER, 3BB, 3K], yielded 19 hits. All of the Chicago's runs were earned as the Cubs took a huge bite out of the post-New York hopes of the Red Sox with the three-game sweep.

"We're set to explode," Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said on Monday.

He meant it.

The two highpoints of the series against Epstein's Cubbies were Stephen Drew breaking up Jake Arrieta's no-hitter with single in the eighth inning on Monday and Remy breaking up his incisor Wednesday.

Just another turning point for the 2014 Red Sox, but in the wrong direction.

The loss left the Red Sox just a game ahead of the fifth-place Rays in the A.L. East. Boston sits 8.5 games out of first place and nine games below .500. The Red Sox are off on Thursday but could be in sole possession of last place at the end of the day on July 4.

The defending World Champions in last place on the Fourth of July?

Orsillo nailed it Wednesday when he called the loss the "rock bottom" point in the season.

He may have spoken a bit too soon.

Red Sox Nation, meanwhile, had gotten one helluva of a toothache.
