Monday's cuts included the hair of Patriots' rookies
The roster trimming that meant the dismissal of Jabar Gaffney and Donte Stallworth, among others, wasn't the only type of cut taking place Monday at Gillette Stadium. As has become an annual tradition, the veteran Patriots indoctrinated a new class of teammates to Foxborough with their clippers abuzz, giving the rookies a variety of embarrassing interesting new hair styles in advance of the team's Kickoff Gala at Gillette Stadium -- including a personal favorite, the tic-tac-toe board etched into the head of offensive tackle Darrion Weems.
Were this high school or college, there's a pretty good chance such a practice would probably be considered hazing. But these are pros, they're adults, they're doing this willingly as a means of cultivating camaraderie -- so everybody has a good laugh over it on the night of the franchise's suit-and-tie fundraiser, leaves it for a day or two, then buzzes it into a good ol' fashioned wiffle.
In fact, it's a team-endorsed tradition: Here are pictures of a handful of the haircuts, courtesy of the Patriots' official Facebook page.
Of far bigger concern to most of them are the cuts coming up Friday night, by when NFL teams must have their rosters down to 53 players.
