While playing in Chicago, Youkilis continues his charity work in New England

With three homers in his last three games, and an RBI double that delivered an insurance run on Monday night, Kevin Youkilis has helped the Chicago White Sox maintain their 1.5-game lead on the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central over recent days.

And they aren't the only ones he's helped.

Although the third baseman was shipped out of New England when the Red Sox traded him in late June, his "Youk's Kids" nonprofit has pledged up to $20,000 to replace the equipment lost by the Babe Ruth League in Goffstown, N.H., when its storage shed was struck by lightning on Saturday night. The strike caused a fire, which destroyed the building that housed batting cages, a pitching machine, catcher's gear, as well as a variety of other items including bats, balls, and helmets.

"Organizations like Goffstown Babe Ruth are an integral part of the town," Youkilis said through a statement. "They offer so many opportunities for kids to learn the skills of both baseball and teamwork, something that will stay with them throughout their lives."

Youkilis founded the charity in 2007, and the organization still maintains its support for the Italian Home for Children in Jamaica Plain and the Athletes for Heroes initiative on which Youkilis teamed with players from the Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and Revolution.

The nonprofit also plans to host its third annual "Not Your Average Idol" event in Boston on Dec. 6.
