ChrisMartin.jpgPortland Sea Dogs reliever Chris Martin was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the period of April 4th through the 14th. During that time he made three appearances, logging 9 innings for a 1-0 record with 12 strikeouts and a league best 0.64 WHIP.

The 6’7” right-hander tossed three shutout innings each time he has hit the hill, flashing a 95 mile-per-hour fastball that has been nearly unhittable by the opposition. In his first appearance on April 5th versus Trenton, he whiffed 7 batters on a night that saw temps dip down into the 30s.

Martin, a free agent pickup in 2011, split duties a season ago, starting 12 of the 23 games he appeared in with Portland. He struck out 65 over 76 1/3 innings in 2012.
