Three Red Sox farm hands earned their respective league’s player of the week honors for the period of May 6th through May 12th thanks to their work at the plate.

Garin Cecchini took the Carolina League’s nod for the second time in three weeks. CecchiniSalem.jpg

The Salem Red Sox third baseman strung together 7 hits on the week including 3 doubles and 2 home runs to go along with 6 RBIs, 7 runs and a stolen base.

Cecchini walked 3 times, struck out only twice and after catching a fast ball on the helmet Saturday he proceeded to go 2-for-3 with a double and solo home run on Sunday.

For the season Cecchini leads the C.L. in batting (.376), on-base percentage (.471) and slugging (.675) and is tied for the league lead in doubles (12).

The first baseman launched 4 of his 6 home runs during the period, including a 2-homer game versus Charlotte on Saturday.

Hamilton hit safely in all seven games during the week, posting a .400 batting average with 10 RBIs and 7 runs. His 27 RBIs on the season ranks him third in the I.L.

Coming into the week Greenville’s Mookie Betts was batting .150 on the season and inMookie.jpg just seven games raised his average 79 points to .229, earning him the South Atlantic League’s player of the week.

Betts has hit safely in 8 straight games and during the period he had 12 hits, drove in 5, scored 7 runs, stole 2 bases and had a 4-for-5 night against Augusta on Wednesday.

Most notably the second baseman jacked 3 homers, giving him 5 on the year, after not hitting one in 71 games with Lowell a year ago.
