Callahn.jpgLowell right-hander Jamie Callahan was named New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the period of July 22-28, becoming the first Spinners player this season to receive a weekly nod.

The 2012 second-rounder made his sixth start of the season during the period, throwing six one-hit innings on the road in Connecticut.

Callahan held the Tigers scoreless and mowed down a season-high 8 batters via strikeout while not yielding a walk.

On the season the 18-year-old is 2-1 with a 4.55 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 23 strikeouts.

The Red Sox selected Callahan with the 87th overall pick last June out of Dillon (South Carolina) High School and he started his pro career with the Gulf Coast Red Sox last season, throwing 8 2/3 inning.

The last Lowell players to receive Player of the Week honors were David Chester (Batter) and Raynel Velette (Pitcher) who doubled up during the period of July 18-24 of last season.
