Augliera.jpgFor the second time in four weeks Salem’s Mike Augliera was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, making it four weeks in a row that a Salem Red Sox player has picked up a weekly honor.

The Old Bridge, New Jersey native made just one start during the period (July 22-28), a home bout versus Frederick where he tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing only 2 hits and a walk while striking out one in a no decision.

Augliera faced 23 batters, forcing 11 ground ball outs and 7 fly outs, but the Salem Sox ultimately succumbed to the Keys in 16 innings.

In five July starts the right-hander went 1-1 with a 3.24 ERA and on the season he is 6-6 with a 4.33 ERA.

A product of Binghamton University, Augliera has made 20 starts for Salem this season and his 106 innings are third most in the organization.

Augliera, a fifth round selection of Boston a year ago, joins Garin Cecchini as two-time weekly honorees for Salem this season, with Stefan Welch (Batter of the Week, July 8-14) and Henry Owens (Pitcher of the Week, July 15-21) having picked up honors between Augliera’s.
