SWright.jpgPawSox knuckleballer Steven Wright was awarded the International League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 1-7.

During the week Wright made two starts for Pawtucket, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 16 innings of work.

In his first start of the week Wright went the distance at home versus the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out three in earning the win and the PawSox only complete game shutout on the season.

The second start of the week came at Rochester on Saturday where Wright gave up just two hits and three walks over seven innings, striking out nine in a no decision effort.

In 16 starts for Pawtucket this season Wright is 4-5 with a 3.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 89 2/3 innings.

Wright also made his Major League debut with Boston earlier in the year (April 23 vs. Oakland), getting in one relief appearance (3 2/3 innings) before returning to Pawtucket.

He joins Mark Hamilton (Batter of the Week, May 6-12) as the only other Pawtucket Red Sox player to earn weekly honors in the International League this season.
