HIGHLIGHTS: The Pigs brought the lumber and staked themselves a five-run lead after two innings, sending the PawSox from the top of the I.L. Eastern Division for the first time since May 16th. Pawtucket is 3-7 over their last ten games and 8-18 in July. … Starter Rubby De La Rosa allowed 6 earned runs on 4 walks and 4 hits in 4 2/3 innings. It was the fourth time in his last six starts that he failed to make it through five innings. … Xander Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. He has reached in base in all 24 games played in July and has a .424 on-base percentage for the month. Bogaerts has 26 July hits, 10 for extra bases, and he has walked 15 times to 14 strikeouts.

The Lake Monsters moved within a game of the Spinners in the Wild Card hunt. … Shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin accounted for three of the team’s errors, giving him ten on the year. … Vermont’s Bobby Wahl, a fifth-round selection by Oakland in June, struck out 3 in 1 2/3 innings. Connecticut is 5-2 over their last seven games. … Starter Alex Phillips struck out three over six scoreless innings for his second win. The Kentucky native followed up a career-high 5 walk performance by not giving up one free pass on Monday. In seven starts Phillips is 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA and 22 strikeouts. …Ben Verlander went 2-for-4 for the second straight game. He has five two-hit games in his last ten played. … Johnnie Kirkland worked two scoreless innings in relief to close out the game. He has not allowed a run in his last four appearances.
