Another week, another weekly honor for the Salem Red Sox.

MookieSalem.jpgThis time around second baseman Mookie Betts has been named the Carolina League’s Batter of the Week for the period of August 5-11, making it six straight weeks that Salem has had a player take home a weekly award.

During the period Betts hit safely in all seven games as the Red Sox went 5-2 during the week, pulling themselves to the .500 mark for the first time since May.

The 2012 fifth-rounder batted .478 after collecting 11 hits, including two home runs.

He went 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts, walked four times, struck out only twice and capped the week with a five RBI performance in Wilmington on Sunday, finishing the week with 11 total RBIs and four runs scored.

Betts was promoted to Salem in July and hit .239 in his first 20 games before busting through in August where he is hitting .371 in ten games with a .462 on-base percentage.

Prior to reaching Salem, Betts batted .296 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs and 63 runs in 76 games with Greenville, where he earned a South Atlantic League Batter of the Week honor back in May.
