McGrath.jpgFor the third straight week a Lowell Spinners hurler takes home the New York-Penn League’s Pitcher of the Week, only this time it wasn’t Jamie Callahan.

Australian left-hander Daniel McGrath earned the NYPL nod for the period of August 5-11, a span in which the 19-year-old was simply perfect in picking up his first two professional wins.

Last Tuesday, in Mahoning Valley, McGrath struck out four in 2 1/3 innings of relief, then followed it up with five perfect innings at Staten Island in the starter's role on Sunday, striking out a season-high six batters in the process.

His impressive line for the week reads: 2 W, 7 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 10 K

Since being called up from the GCL McGrath has pitched in four games, all on the road, for Lowell, going 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 19 strikeouts.

On the season, between the GCL and Lowell, the Aussie has K’d 49 batters and walked only seven in 37 innings of work.

To learn more about McGrath, who has some local blood in him, check out my NYPL notebook from last week, featuring the young lefty.
