Jets receiver Edwards arrested for DWI
According to a report in the New York Post this morning, the New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards has been arrested for drunk driving.
Edwards was reportedly pulled over in Manhattan for having overly tinted windows on his Range Rover and was found to have double the legal limit of alcohol in his system. Police said they smelled alcohol and Edwards blew a 0.16 on a Breathalyzer, or double the state's legal limit of 0.08.
"We are very disappointed in Braylon's actions this morning," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement today. "We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures."
Edwards was arrested at 5:15 a.m., the report said, and had another passenger in the car who did not appear to be charged. Edwards is in police custody and is expected to be arraigned later today, the report added.
On Sunday, Edwards received a 15-yard penalty for taunting Patriots cornerback Darius Butler after his 10-yard TD catch in the second quarter. Edwards said he was performing "the Dougie Dance."
Edwards tweeted the following on his official Twitter page this morning:
GoodMorning World...Winning is the goal, perfection is the aspiration, & dedication is the key to unlock the door #LetsWork
In January, Edwards pleaded no contest to an assault charge stemming from an incident when he was accused of hitting Edward Givens, a friend of NBA star LeBron James, outside a Cleveland nightclub. The NFL opted not to suspend him for that incident under the league's personal-conduct policy.
In March 2009, then Browns receiver Edwards spent more than $3,400 on a bar tab when he was drinking with Donte' Stallworth the night the Browns receiver struck and killed a pedestrian in Miami.
