A goal in a West Coast game late Monday night flew under the radar a bit here on the East Coast yesterday, but even today is worth showing.
The LA Kings' Anze Kopitar flipped the puck from just past his own blue line up and over two San Jose Sharks players to perfectly lead Dustin Brown, who then flipped a backhander into the net.
It was like an over-the-shoulder pass in football. Advance the video to about the 20-second mark to cut right to the chase.
According to the LA Times, the Kings have tried it before.
“Yeah, we’ve actually tried that in similar situations," Brown told the Times. "You probably don’t realize it because it’s never connected like that. Either I’m thinking he’s going to do it too early [and] I’m going too fast or he flips it on a second too late and it ends up being an icing. Tonight we both were on the same page with that flip. He put it right there.”
