Super Bowl lunacy, Day 1: More pets named for Packers than Steelers
As Super Bowl week dawns, so begins the steady influx of crazy PR pitches, wild marketing ploys and other assorted bids by companies, groups and associations trying to latch on to the big game.
This week is unlike any other for sports journalists because of the stuff that gets sent to you. The Buzz will bring you a selection of the most humorous all week.
Today's example comes from Mr. Darren Shannon of the Veterinary Pet Insurance Co., who claims in a press release that according to VPI's database of more than 485,000 insured pets, more of them have names in honor of the Packers.
A nifty little chart shows the breakdown of his deep analysis. For example, more pets are named "Steelers" or "Steeler" than "Green Bay Packer" or "Packers".
However, the Packers win four out of the next six categories -- including quarterback, receiver, former stars (Lombardi or Favre vs. Bradshaw and Bettis) and intangibles (cheese and Lambeau vs. Steely or Heinz).
