Report: Leon Powe to sign with Grizzlies
Celtics fan favorite Leon Powe will sign a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, NBA.com's David Aldridge reported on his Twitter feed earlier today. The 6-foot-8-inch power forward was released by the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this season.
The Celtics likely had interest in Powe, but they filled their need for a big man when they signed veteran Troy Murphy on Tuesday. The hard-working Powe has dealt with serious knee injuries for his entire career. In the Kendrick Perkins mode, Powe was a fan favorite during his time in Boston. His moment in the sun came in Game 2 of the 2008 NBA Finals when he came off the bench to score 21 points, prompting Lakers Coach Phil Jackson to lament to reporters that his team did a bad job on Leon "Pow".
