Legendary Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt will step aside after 38 seasons, Summitt told the Washington Post today. Longtime assistant Holly Warlick will take over for the Lady Vols.

Summitt -- who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease eight months ago -- will remain on staff as “head coach emeritus," where she will advise players as her health allows. NCAA rules will prohibit her from actively coaching.

Summitt has won more games (1,098) than any man or woman in the sport. Her teams have won eight national championships.

The university is expected to officially announce Summit's status Wednesday afternoon.
