Report: Patriots release Chad Ochocinco

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported via Twitter the Patriots have released wide receiver Chad Ochocinco.

According to both Schefter and Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Patriots tried to trade Ochocinco earlier in the day. He was acquired last summer in a trade prior to training camp, but made only 15 catches for 276 yards and one touchdown during the Patriots's season.

Earlier today, Ochocinco was absent from the team's practice. He was at Gillette Stadium, but left.
