In Thursday's Kent State-Towson college football game, opening day was an excuse for everybody on the field to make mistakes -- both teams and the referees.

Kent's Andre Parker fielded a punt after the ball grazed Towson's returner, and then ran back toward his own goal. Towson players tackled him -- we don't know why, he was heading toward the wrong end zone and a potential safety -- at Kent's 30-yard line.

In the end, however, the referees placed the ball on Towson's 7-yard line. The referees concluded the play should have been blown dead as soon as Parker touched the ball.
