Former Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine gave a wide-ranging interview on NBC Sports' Costas Tonight program Tuesday, the same day his replacement, John Farrell, was introduced at Fenway Park.

Valentine discussed a range of topics, including the Mike Aviles incident in spring training, his midseason comment about Will Middlebrooks, and his relationship with his coaching staff. He also said designated hitter David Ortiz decided not to play after the Red Sox completed their blockbuster trade with the Dodgers, although Ortiz reinjured his foot in a game the same day news of the trade broke.
