Kerri McKinnon takes education seriously she's a member of the school committee in Nahant and doesn't take her son out of school for just anything.

But she also knows how important the Red Sox and baseball are to her son, Brian Thompson-McKinnon, and their relationship. Brian, she said, "learned to count by watching the Red Sox."

So with tickets for Friday's Game 1 of the ALDS in hand, she penned a creative note to Brian's teacher to ask for an early dismissal, and she cited "Red Sox fever" as the excuse and a trip to Fenway Park as the only cure.

"His teacher laughed hysterically at school," she said. She added she knows the teacher, Jude Shanahan, well, and wanted to brighten her day a bit as well because she is having knee surgery soon.

"I just wanted to bring some laughter to her day," McKinnon said.

She also said Brian only missed recess and choice time, which on Friday was either chess or drawing.

Her full letter is pictured below.
