Early in the year, the Northeast Division is tight as could be.

The Sabres tonight will try to keep a two-point edge on the second-place Bruins, and Montreal, who plays Toronto (last place, five points back of first), can grab first with a win, but only B’s can upend Buffalo (in regulation).

On to the links:

* HSBC Arena was rocking last night, but the Sabres couldn’t grab two points.

Off-night for Ryan Miller, who kicked out a huge rebound before Jason Williams tucked in the OT winner. Expect Miller, who was sparkling against the B’s on Oct. 21, to bounce back tonight.

* Stick salute to longtime Buffalo News columnist Dick Johnston, who passed away Thursday.

Johnston was a pro’s pro.

* Studies show women suffer twice as many hockey-related concussions as their male counterparts.

Would love to hear some local players and coaches chime in on this worrisome trend.
